My story

Upon discovering that crayons don’t taste great as a child, I declared myself an artist and have never looked back. My journey began with a B.F.A. from North Texas State University and a full scholarship to Penn State for my M.F.A., where I first fell in love with tile-making. My early career saw me traveling the craft fair circuit, creating whimsical cat-themed tiles inspired by my 1st cat, a tuxedo tabby, Mitzpha. Over the years, I transitioned to teaching and public art, facilitating over 60 murals in schools. In 2020, the pandemic gave me the chance to wade into digital art, and at 68, I reinvented myself once again through print-on-demand. Today, terry johnson studio reflects my love for cats (inspired by my six ‘life models’) and my passion for creating joyful, cat-themed designs, including my popular cat wrapping paper. I have ventured into Occasions specializing in returning elegance to the Gothic wedding trend and creating funny and nostalgic birthday and retirement collections for the Baby Boomer generation like myself.
