Why It Matters
NPR matters to me because it’s one of the few remaining news sources undiluted by for-profit motives that distort so much of today’s media. Its journalists answer to the truth, not to shareholders, and its local member stations serve a vital role in our communities. In many areas, these stations are part of the Emergency Alert System — the trusted voice that breaks in with life-saving information during severe weather, natural disasters, and other crises. For rural communities especially, NPR stations can be the only real-time warning system, staying on the air with backup power when others go dark. Supporting NPR means safeguarding not just independent journalism, but also a critical local lifeline when it matters most.
